Jan has been a member of FGOS since 2006. She’s been growing orchids a little over eight years and has about 90 plants in her collection. She says, “Her favorite kind of orchid is any orchid that blooms, especially if they are fragrant.” Jan’s enthusiasm for FGOS is exciting & contagious.
Lucy started growing phals on her window sill in New Jersey about 34 years ago; she only had about three plants. Lucy & her husband moved to Florida 13 years ago and right away she started growing Vandas, and really, every type of orchid plant that looked interesting. She now has well over 300 beautiful plants. Her favorites are Vandas and Angraecums. Lucy is heavily involved with the Orchidteers at Flamingo Gardens.
Mary has been growing orchids for about 20+ years and has been a member of FGOS for at least 20 years! Her collection numbers about 75 orchids. Mary says her favorite orchid is “Anyone that does not die, but if I need to choose, it would be a Cattleya. Mary is all things Membership. She’s there to greet you at the door, make sure you’re welcomed if a guest, and keeps track of all new members and renewals. Without Mary, we’d all starve and go without food and beverage. Mary has manages the refreshment table too!
Theresa has been growing orchids for about four years and three of those years she’s been a member of FGOS! But in her four years she’s collected about 100 orchids, 60 in pots and the rest hanging in a tree! Her favorites are Dendrobiums and Cattleyas.
Marcy has been growing orchids for three years & two of those has been with FGOS. She says her favorite kind of orchid is anything that will bloom for her and not commit suicide! She really likes Vandas because she finds them easy to care for with long-lasting blooms and she can get them to bloom several times a year. Marcy has been on the board a year and pitches in whenever she’s available.
Mike Vaupel has been a member for over four years and has been growing orchids a little over five years. He says is inventory at this time has 25 + orchids. His favorites are Cattleyas and Vandas and anything growing on Cypress wood.
